You are in the right spot if you are an entrepreneur wanting to open a business or a merchant currently operating a business on Tybee Island.  The information on this page will help you with available resources, assistance, and financial opportunities and incentives available through the Development Authority/Main Street Program.

Opening a Business

Are you interested in opening a business or expand an existing business on Tybee? We are here to help!

General population and demographic information about potential clients on Tybee Island (i.e. your neighborly customers throughout the year) is available through the 2010 census information. Please call 912-472-5071 with questions.

Research findings from a Market Study (Phase II) done in 2011 with Georgia Tech yielded a helpful profile summary of overnight guests for merchants to access as they plan marketing strategies.  The City of Tybee Island and the Tybee Island Tourism Council worked in conjunction with Armstrong Center for Regional Analysis in cooperation with the Armstrong Public Service Center to conduct a Tourism Study (PDF), which was completed in 2015.

Over the years, individuals have completed surveys and identified the following business types that are desired to add to the mix of businesses on Tybee:
